I teach GATE (Gifted and Talented Ed) at an at risk school of about 700 students in the Las Vegas area. Many of my students are learning English as a second language and the majority are socioeconomically disadvantaged. They are also a unique population within our school because they are identified as gifted learners (within the top 2% of the school district) who qualify for a fast paced, enriched program designed to cultivate their gifts and talents. My students are highly intelligent, "out of the box" thinkers, and thirsty for learning, creating, and problem solving. They are motivated, resilient, and have the desire to become makers and leaders.
