Part of students' Life Skills Learning Program includes preparing their own meals. At the start of the school year, students developed a list of recipes or foods items they would like to cook. This included smoothies, milkshakes, spaghetti, pancakes/waffles, fruit salads, hot-dogs, pizza, and grilled cheese sandwiches. The gloves will help promote safety & cleanness of ingredients as students prepare their meals. The appliances, such as the blender, toaster oven, and the electric counter-top burner will enable us to cook desired meals within the classroom setting.
Cooking gives our students the opportunity to work on reading skills, listening skills, sequencing, nutrition, math for measuring and adjusting recipes, use a variety of kitchen tools, and more.
It is also is very motivating to students because typically they get to eat what they make & in some cases students are trying new foods.
