Our classroom is a unique diverse learning community where students come from all over the world. We learn from each other every day and although our diversity of culture and language are amazing, we are also a Title 1 inner city school where most students receive free lunch & breakfast.
Many of them come to school hungry, and many of them live under conditions filled with poverty and have had traumatic experiences that occupy their minds. There is nothing more rewarding than to see the same students engaged in high-interest books relevant to their lives, quality materials that will make learning fun while being aligned with the new Common Core Standards. Reading levels range from 1st gr. to H.S. with a high special education population as well, which make getting quality books in such a range a challenge! We also have limited use of our library as it is used for 2 ELLs classrooms due to overcrowding this year.
