My students are racially and linguistically diverse and almost all of their families are recent immigrants, in poverty or working poor. My 1st graders show a huge range of abilities and interests in my class. But despite any challenges they face, my students all exhibit grit, perseverance, eagerness to learn and joy each day. Some of my kids are very likely gifted, but our school does not have the resources to identify or support those students because of the high level of student needs overall.
