The area that my special ed students struggle with the most has always been reading comprehension. So many of my students have difficulty with processing information through text, which makes reading a typical novel especially challenging. This makes it difficult for them to have positive feelings about reading.
Graphic novels allow readers of all levels to develop a love of reading. The illustrations give context clues which help readers decipher meaning and remember events. Graphic novels have helped build the reading confidence of my students, many who struggle to get through the first chapter of most books. These books will be a great addition to our classroom library.
