At our inner city school (where every student qualifies for free lunch) there are no music instruments except for a broken drum kit donated by a teacher and 3 used guitars (in need of strings and repairs) owned by students. Most of our students cannot readily buy instruments. Our school maintains a rigorous curriculum, however, we do not have a music program. Music is a discipline and art that should be included in the student's best interest and cultural breadth. Our students can- with just 4 guitars, learn and teach each other (groups of 5 at a time) music via the guitars- they can expand and express their intellectual curiosity. We can do this with just four guitars and the motivation that we already have among our students.
