My classroom is at a low-income, Title I school. Many of my students are low readers, despite being sixth grade students. They have had little opportunity to read, and even fewer opportunities to read books that are of interest to them. I am a third year teacher, and therefore do not have many resources of my own to provide for my students. I have inherited a small library from previous teachers, but most of the books are old and falling apart.
Most of the books these students read come from the school library, or the meager library in our classroom. Because of this, many of these students are low readers. One of the best ways to increase student comprehension and vocabulary is by providing students with the chance to read books that they enjoy. The books on this list are books all the students have found interesting and engaging, and I would like to provide them with these books everyday.
