PAPER! Yes, it seems like something teachers get automatically, but is not the case for every district or every school. I do not consider myself a “worksheet” teacher who assigns worksheets every night, but they are beneficial for students to get nightly practice on. This is especially true for students who are not able to access computer enrichment programs at home (more than half of my class). I am hoping to be able to print out extra worksheets, games, and the materials to address each of my student's needs. I am also wishing to have extra supplies for STEAM or creative ways of teaching projects. Currently, I am limited to what I can help my students with and how creative we can be.
I am hoping to raise the first $300 for paper supplies and another $100 for pillows, with any additional funds raised going assist the other 5th grade classroom at my school.
PILLOWS! As a teacher, I value students being comfortable in my classroom and getting to choose an area they are most at ease working in. I want to consider my whole classroom a “Makerspace”, which would be a space where the only limit to a student’s learning, creativity, ability to generate or construct, or create would be their imagination. To do this, I would love to have more pillows around the classroom where students can truly get comfortable. A standard classroom can feel stark, and I have added a handful of throw pillows, pillow stuffed animals and a director’s chair. But with 31 students in my class those go quickly, and the rest are lying on the bare carpet. I would enjoy seeing them being able to appreciate the classroom and make it a true “Makerspace”.
