My emergent bilingual students come from countries all over the world (Poland, Spain, Honduras, El Salvador, Egypt, Yemen, Vietnam, Mexico). Some have come to America for refuge from war, others for a better way of life, and once they arrive my job is to teach them English as well as keep their first language flourishing. These students attend a public school in New York. Our learning environment promotes the mindset that being bilingual is an asset not a setback. The students are very eager to learn and grateful to be in a peaceful, safe, and loving environment.
