I am fortunate to teach at a public charter school with an amazing commitment to making arts education available to every child. You can feel the difference in our building, among our staff and our students, there is a climate of respect and compassion, and positive energy. My wonderful students are socioeconomically and culturally diverse. I believe our school makes them feel safe and accepted, and I truly believe that by engaging our students through the arts, we are empowering them to grow, to accept challenges, and to find their strengths and passions.
My 3rd and 4th graders are a bright, bold group of kids, and what I want most is for them to be successful after they leave my class. I'm sure they get tired of hearing me say, "I want you to think, I want you to analyze, I want you to be creative problem solvers, and I want you to read the book before you watch the movie!"
