My school is new, established six years ago, and is Title I, which means that the school library collection is underdeveloped. Many of the books available are classic literature that students have difficulty connecting with. Teachers often do not have enough books for each student to have their own copy and instead must have classroom copies that students cannot take home or use to annotate. Students have difficulty engaging with the text when they cannot make notes or highlight important quotes.
My students need to be able to explore new kinds of books. They also need to be able to interact with the book by asking questions, making comments and identifying new words. The best way to accomplish this is to introduce new books into my classroom. Please help me and my students to explore new worlds and topics!
