My young students learn best in an environment that gives them opportunities to feel successful while manipulating letters that form the words we read and write! I'm also asking for books for our classroom library. The materials I have requested will support a yearlong attempt at improving spelling and phonic skills while ultimately creating better readers and writers! I am requesting leveled books and manipulatives like Wikki Stix, alphabet tiles, alphabet beads, magnetic letters and alphabet stamps. My students will spend 30 minutes of their literacy block manipulating these materials to form and read words as well as 30 minutes reading to self. As my students become more familiar with reading, writing and spelling words, they will become better communicators which is critical in the 21st century! We all want our students to be excited about the learning process so they will want to be life-long learners
