Each year, I love to read several novels with or to my students. As we are reading, I witness their curiosity and love for books. They beg to read more and more. This is a experience that is important for me to pass on to my students. One of my favorite memories as a child, was reading novels with my classmates and teacher in the 4th grade. That year I developed a true love for reading and still cherish that time today.
With A copy of the book for each student, they will provide their own answers, opinions, support thier thinking and challenge the ideas of others while using text based evidence. Students will learn how to specifically cite from the author, review important parts with a more careful analysis and most importantly the literary thinking of these fifth graders and the desire to read will rise to a level that otherwise would not be possible.
