Music plays a vital role in my classroom. Being that my students are exposed to a plethora of sounds outside of the school day, it was imperative that I channel this familiarity of "sound" and incorporate it into a learning opportunity. I expose my students to multiple genres, from Jazz to Classical tunes, as they partake in lessons. However, we need a wireless speaker. Their favorite has definitely been Stevie Wonder thus far! Adding the musical element in our everyday classroom setting has created a sense of relaxation and homeyness in the social-emotional learning environment.
Games are essential in keeping the excitement in student learning, and that's where the literacy games come into play. Games are a crucial engagement piece to allow students to hone in concepts that are being introduced. I have several math-related games that emphasize critical thinking skills that are valuable for solving mathematical predicaments. Noticing the enthusiasm that my students express when partaking in the math games, encourages me to seek out literacy games that would stimulate those same feelings in my students.
