I currently have 155 students in my middle school school English Language Arts classes. There are about 22 students in each class. My students are young adults and will be entering college and the job force in less than 6 years. I need to prepare them for their future by giving them more experiences with technology. Not only is technology important for their success, it also provides them with hands-on and interactive learning to increase their engagement and motivation. My students are in a school that doesn't have much technology. After Hurricane Irma, we lost our computer lab due to flood damage. With this project, the students will be able to have access to 21st-century technology. The students will use the devices to prepare their projects. My students need to be exposed to more project-based learning.
Project-based learning is a teaching method in which students gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to an authentic, engaging, and complex question, problem, or challenge.
My students need to read and think on a higher grade level so they need the laptops to conduct research. This will allow my students to gain knowledge and skills in English Language Arts that aren't taught in our classroom-based text. My students need to be exposed to more critical thinking texts to build their skills. My student share a keen interest for many different things that are restricted due to the limited text that we use in class. These materials will allow them to be exposed to more complex subjects, and they will be able to present their projects to the class. I want my students to be successful and foster their love for learning so they become life-long learners. And technology will help them reach that goal.
