Music is essential to any dance class. Currently, I am having to use my personal phone for any music used during my classes. If the Dance Department at Northwest Classen High School were to have it's own iPod, we would be able to utilize our own playlists for each class and have a device that could be used to record students dancing with for playback and educational purposes. It would also keep my students safer by having my phone available to contact administration as well as emergency personnel in the case of an emergency. My work phone is located in my office which is not close enough to my classroom to hear it ringing or to make a call in a timely manner. There are also times when I have to hold class in a different location, placing me even further away from my office.
Having a Bluetooth speaker would allow my students to connect their personal devices to play their own music aloud when working on student choreography pieces during class. With my advanced classes, I assign a choreography project at the end of the school year where each student has to choreograph a solo for himself or herself. Currently, to practice in class with music my students have to email their music choices to me before it can be played through the speaker that we currently have.
We all know that accidents are bound to happen, which is why I would also love to have the protection plan for the Sony Speaker and a screen protector for the iPod to help preserve the technology as best as we can!
I enjoy getting to watch my students develop and grow throughout the year in dance. Having this technology would amplify their class experience!
