A large portion of my caseload consists of students from the life skills program. With these students, the main objective of speech therapy is to increase the functionality of their communication. My students need practice in creating specific, clear sentences to share stories and solve tricky situations. The "Problem Solving: Colorcards" and "Language Builder Sequencing Flash Cards Photo Action and Self-Help Skills" cards will increase my students' ability to visualize social scenarios and effectively discuss complex events.
The academic and social demands of middle- and high-school are extremely high. Many of my students juggle classes, extra curriculars, and sports while maintaining relationships with family and friends. I plan to use the "Aim High" Notepad, Knock Knock "This Week" Pad, and Jot & Mark "To Do List" Notepad as organizational tools for my students who struggle with homework completion and time management. These tools will improve their ability to self-monitor their schoolwork and continue to take responsibility for their grades and academic performance.
Due to the fact that my caseload is made up of adolescent students, a large part of my practice is helping students realize that they can take control of their actions! The "Heavy Duty Storage Pocket Chart with 30 Pockets" will be hung on my office wall. Each student will have their own file, which will house their speech monitoring data. The students will monitor their performance during each therapy session. This will empower students by helping them see that practice and hard work can result in positive outcomes!
My students have shown a strong willingness and desire to improve their communication skills. They want their ideas to be heard! I know the additional visuals and organizational tools will help my students continue to grow into productive members of our society!
