Our school is a K-8 school with 730 students. Almost 83% of the students are low income and the majority speak a language other than English at home. 47% of the students are still mastering how to read and write in English. As an ESL teacher, all my students are still learning English. My students are in grades 6, 7, and 8 and are as fun and dramatic as one expects of children this age. No two days are the same, but every class is filled with learning. We are becoming better readers and writers by exploring social and health issues that are important to middle school students such as cyber bullying, the impact of litter on a community, and the health dangers of energy drinks.
