My students will sit on the beanbags, wobble stools and stability balls while they are listening to whole group lessons, working independently, working in small groups and working on the computer. They will use them throughout the day in math, reading, writing, social studies and science. Students will be eager to work on different assignments and in different groups with new, flexible seating options. It is challenging for many of my students to read comfortably at their seats during independent reading time because other students around them are working. These new seating options will allow students to find a cozy, comfortable spot in the room to read.
Flexible seating options, such as beanbags, wobble chairs and stability balls will help my students focus and do their best learning. There are some days when lessons can take a long time, and it is hard for students to sit still and concentrate. With beanbags, wobble chairs and stability balls, students would be able to sit comfortably and wiggle around while they are learning. These flexible seating options have been shown to improve focus, balance and core strength. Students need hands-on learning, and these kinesthetic seating options will help students' memory and attention span. I constantly have students getting up and moving around during small group instruction because it is hard for them to focus on an independent task. With new seating options, I am confident that my students will become more independent and I will be able to give more attention to my small groups.
