My students are excited and eager to read old books, new books, any kind of books! I am a first grade teacher in Brentwood, New York. I work with students that come into first grade reading well below grade level and struggle with reading. My students are mostly native Spanish speakers. My student always get so excited about books and learning; whether they are being read to, reading alone or reading with a partner. I try my best to move students up reading levels as quickly as I can. This is hard to do with a limited amount of books. My students need more leveled fiction and nonfiction books to read independently. Your help will allow my students to experience literature at their level. This is exactly what they need (along with instruction) for them to become better readers and to read on grade level. By giving books, you will help me help them learn to read and will be feeding their appetite for knowledge.
