For many of my students, comprehending nonfiction text is challenging and considered "uninteresting." Our school population is 93% free and reduced, and students receive universal free breakfast and lunch. At home, learning about current events through the Internet or television is limited, and even then, difficult to understand because the message is not tailored to their age level. They crave an engaging text that will speak to and inspire them to investigate and read about the world and current events.
