I teach in an urban school. We serve a very diverse population of students. We are a title one school, which 82% of the students receive free or reduced price lunch. As a teacher, my mission focuses on developing life-long learners and responsible citizens. I have students from very diverse backgrounds which include special education, English as a second language. I call our classroom a family. I have 3 goals for my students: 1. That they learn something new everyday. 2. They gain more confidence and self-esteem. 3. They leave my classroom as better citizens than when they entered. How do I try to meet these goals? With differentiated instruction in an open learning environment where they can feel safe, secure and valued.
