My first grade students need flexible seating because it would create a more effective and student-centered learning environment. Being comfortable gives the students the opportunity to become more engaged and happier throughout the learning process.
I plan on giving my students a choice in how they learn by giving them a variety of seating options around the classroom that best meets their needs.
I plan on replacing some of our more traditional seating with wobble chairs, cushions, and colorful stools. Cushioned puzzle chairs will also be placed around the room along with a mini trampoline! Clipboards will allow students to work anywhere around the room without the need of a desk or table. Each student will have a choice of where they want to sit throughout the day during independent and group activities.
Flexible seating gives students a choice in what kind of learning space works best for them and encourages students to work collaboratively, communicate among peers, and engage in critical thinking.
