English language learners require literacy instruction that is interactive, engaging, and scaffolded. The materials I am requesting will directly benefit my students' language and literacy development. For students with no prior literacy concepts, pocket charts are useful to teach vocabulary, sentence structure, and how to read from left to right. Phonics cubes, legos, sight word activities, and spelling games are tools that will facilitate students' learning in an engaging and fun way while promoting authentic use of the English language through speaking and listening. For struggling students, Wiki sticks and word-building centers are materials that make differentiation more meaningful. To ensure that the materials are used for future classes as well, proper storage bins are also needed. Your donations will not only support the literacy development of high needs students, but help first graders acquire the academic and social language they need to be successful for years to come. My students are ready to learn English, they just need a little help!
