I believe in student choice to help reluctant readers become enthusiastic readers, and I also believe students should be able to see themselves in the stories they read. I'm a new teacher at this school, and right now, my classroom library is outdated. With the help of this project, I can provide independent reading books that are contemporary and by diverse authors to my students.
The single most important part of my job is to get books into kids' hands. To be scholars and eco-activists for their community, it's important for students to be able to read tough texts and communicate through writing. The best way for students to get better at these skills is through reading every day, and the only way that's likely to happen is if students have independent reading books that genuinely interest them. This is why I have selected new books ranging in genre and topic; these additions to my classroom library will help guarantee growth of love of reading, writing, and communication for all of my young scholars.
