Due to Covid-19, my students are now receiving their OT services via teletherapy. While it has been a blast getting to know their families, pets and siblings better, we are missing some of our most basic supplies in our sessions because we can no longer work in our OT room at school! I work with families in lower income areas of San Diego, and many are lacking the space and materials needed to carry out therapy at home. I would love to give them each an "OT Box" to take home so that we can have more effective and engaging online therapy sessions. We will use the scissors, colored pencils and crayons to build visual motor skills needed for handwriting, a crucial school task. We will use the wikki stix, thera putty, theraband, clothespins, pom poms, and sequins to build fine motor, gross motor, and dexterity skills needed for everyday school tasks. The laminator and pouches will allow me to create re-usable activities (like mazes, game boards, etc.) to keep students engaged in therapeutic activities. The visual timer will give my lower level students a tangible sense of time, to help them with activity completion and emotional regulation. When school resumes onsite, we can continue to use these boxes/kits to minimize cross-contamination and keep each student safe with their own set of therapy supplies.
