My students have very little access to read nonfiction texts. Seeing real world objects, ideas, careers, and science come alive in a text can really motivate students to read more on a topic...and you just never know who might decide to change the world for the better after reading a book about a female astronaut!
Scholastic provides great readers for students that cover topics we study in first grade. Things like American Symbols, Sports Careers, Astronauts and Space. Having books that are familiar topics, but as a level appropriate for first graders makes them successful researchers and builds inquiring minds.
I want my students to have a whole set of new nonfiction that will stimulate their learning, and meet their reading levels all at the same time!
