Our students thrive when their needs are being met each day. This project, which will bring additional flexible seating options into our classroom, an initiative that we have done in previous years and know is extremely effective, will allow our students to move around while being seated as well as utilize various spaces in our classroom to complete their best work. We believe that the entire classroom should be available for learning in the way that helps each student the most. This may be students laying down to complete a written assignment, lightly bouncing on a yoga ball to remain focused, working at a standing table, wiggling on a wobble stool while reading or taking a clipboard and stadium seat to a quiet corner in the room to really focus on their work.
These materials will give our students the chance to discover what works best for their body to help them remain focused and engaged learners. Our goal is for the students to begin to understand more about themselves and how they are best able to complete their work. Providing them with additional choices with these wobble stools, stadium seats and clipboards, students will be able to explore different modalities throughout the course of the day and year, increasing opportunities for safe and calming movement while completing a higher level of work. These seating options can easily be incorporated into group lessons as well as independent work times, increasing their impact on our students by helping them stay engaged for longer periods of time throughout the day.
