My students are a group of diverse, fun loving, kind fifth and sixth graders who are eager to learn more about math. They come from many socioeconomic backgrounds. My classroom is an inclusive space which means that I have students with special needs learning alongside developmentally on track peers.
Since there are so many needs in my two fifth and two sixth grade classrooms, I work so hard with help of my Learning Behavior Specialists and Paraprofessionals to teach them empathy and understanding for themselves and peers.
I give my students choice in their learning and I allow them time to work independently, in partners, in small groups and in whole group settings. This teaches them collaboration and self advocation.
