By allowing for flexible seating in my class, I am giving my students the opportunity to work in areas that best suit their learning needs. My group of gifted third graders have brains and bodies that seem to be moving a mile a minute!
These balance ball seats, wobble cushions, stools, and chair bands allow the students options. Not everyone can sit in the same chair the whole day and still manage to approach the task at hand with the same diligence they began with. Since my students are basically with me all day for all subjects, I want them to be able to find ways to remain focused on their assignments.
I do not want them to feel confined. I want them to be free to make their own choices around the room.
