The kindergartners of room 12 love being able read to. Especially when it is their book checked out from the school library or personal books brought into the classroom from home. Numerous times of the day, I am asked by many of my students if they can read to me, because they are excited and proud and want to show me their reading skills.
My school is located in a rural setting, the student population composed primarily of Hispanic, white, and a small percentage of Asian. Many of my students are children of migrant working families and come from lower socioeconomic homes. 80% of the students that attend my school are on free or reduced lunch programs.
