My students are amazing, but most come from very difficult home situations. Some do not know how long they will stay in one place, some don't have a supportive environment away from distractions. Some don't have encouragement to do well. In spite of that, they work hard and try their best!
I have 41 students in my classes that are between the ages of 8 and 10. They have a reading and social studies teacher and then me, their math and science teacher. My students attend a title one school that is located in their neighborhood they live in, which has developed a bad reputation. All the students qualify for free lunch and breakfast. Most students want to come to school daily for the structure and love, and come the end of the day they don't want to go home.
I want my students to exit my class above grade level and eager to learn. I want them to be able to squash the stereotypes that society places upon them.
