I teach second graders in a rural community on the north shore of Hawaii. We have a small school which does not have a P.E. teacher. As the classroom teacher I am required to provide the students in my class with 120 minutes of P.E. each week. While we have a nice grass field, we have no gymnasium or equipment for P.E. which makes it difficult to implement new activities. Studies have shown that students who are active physically on a daily basis have higher academic achievement. Childhood obesity is also on the rise with parents working longer and students in front of televisions, computers and video games for hours on end.
