My students are at a crucial age where they are just hitting their stride in reading. They know how to read, now all they need is that right book to make them fall in love with reading. In order to accomplish that, we need a variety high interest books to meet the needs of our students. Students are asked to read every day during guided reading and I want to make this a worthwhile part of their day by providing some high quality, engaging books for them to read.
There is no greater gift you can give a student then the love of a good book. When I was in second grade, I struggled with reading. One of the best things I was ever given was a great series to read, Junie B. Jones. When students are given books that interest them, we can begin to bridge the gap between students reading because they have too to students reading because they have to know what happens next.
When generating this project, I gave my students the opportunity to choose books they would love to have in our classroom library. They gave me many awesome choices. I am asking for copies of forty kid-recommended books including Heidi Heckelbeck and the Magic Puppy, Mercy Watson Goes for a Ride, and There's No Crying in Baseball. I am also requested a 12 book set of My Weird School Daze. My students would really love to get some more series in our classroom for their independent reading. So they can continue to read books that they have fallen in love with. They can't part with the characters they have grown to love.
