We are a Title I school and we have the greatest students around. The population is approximately 65% Hispanic, 20% African American and 15% Asian. They practically all live in apartments and receive free or reduced lunch. English is a second language for many of our students and many parents do not speak English. Despite these economic and cultural challenges, our students are wonderful to teach. Their school attendance is exemplary. They are well behaved and have positive attitudes toward learning.
Our multi-cultural community greatly supports arts education with band, orchestra, art and chorus in the school. Clubs include drama and guitar as well. However, our school has one microphone for the whole building. With Fine Arts performances in the gymnasium and cafeteria, our technical resources obviously are very limited. The microphones serve a dual purpose for performances and honor assemblies that our school has during commencement ceremonies.
