One of my favorite roles of teaching is serving as an Adviser to 12 amazing sophomores at Carmen High School on the Northwest side of the city. I have been with the same group of young women for two years and they have truly shown me what it means to think critically, speak your truth, and care deeply. One of the biggest setbacks these ladies face is inequitable education. A majority of them are not on grade level, in fact, 11/12 are 2+ years below grade level in 3 or more subjects.
