My classroom is a Dual Immersion classroom. My students are from many different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, but they all have one thing in common. They are learning to read and write in Spanish. Some of my students are second language learners of Spanish and some are native speakers of Spanish. This grouping gives my native Spanish speakers a unique opportunity to be leaders among their peers. They are also able to be proud of the knowledge that they bring from home. Together all students learn and grow in the areas of literacy, math, science, and social studies while becoming biliterate and bicultural.
