My 6th grade students are resilient, thankful, creative, and hard-working. They come to my classroom with many challenges and are often many grade levels behind in reading, writing, and mathematics. My students are English language learners and have been diagnosed with learning disabilities or other challenges such as ADHD. Most of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch and come from families who struggle to pay the bills. Despite these challenges, my students have many strengths they use to counter these challenges, including their diverse backgrounds, their curiosity about the world, and their love of learning.
My classroom is a positive learning environment where students compete against themselves and not against each other. My students are working on building empathy and social skills while learning how to read, write, and solve math problems. Our motto is "We are getting better everyday!"
