I have a wonderful group of caring, curious and lively 4th graders that are in need of a functional, diverse classroom library. This is will be my second-year teaching and the library that I inherited for my classroom is a combination of 4th and 5th grade literature, where many of the titles do not reflect the lives of my students. Therefore, I would love to be able to give my student books with a diverse range of characters representative of themselves. I would purchase books from Black, Latinx and other authors from frequently underrepresented communities to create a more inclusive library for my students. Specifically, in 4th grade with our reading curriculum students will be engaging in "Social Issues Book Clubs."
I want to make sure that I am able to pull relevant books, from a diverse group of authors, with characters and stories reflective of my students and their stories.
Additionally, there is not a helpful organization system currently in place among the books that I do have, so I am in need of some storage. With the upcoming school year holding so much uncertainty, I also want to make sure that I am able to keep also students healthy and safe when navigating through the library. Therefore, I am looking for two rolling carts in order to place books that have been read and loved on, so that they have remain separate from other reading materials. They will allow me to help keep students safe, and keep our library organized.
