I teach a very diverse 1st grade class in a public school in Northern California.
I'm looking forward to implementing Common Core State Standards in my classroom, which require students to learn critical thinking, problem solving, academic language, and 21st Century skills. Exactly what I want to teach them!
I'm looking forward to expanding my knowledge about how to use technology in meaningful ways in my teaching, with creative new uses of technology that build on their skills.
Our school district just adopted an exciting reading curriculum that comes from the Columbia Teachers College. This is not a scripted curriculum with basal readers, but one in which students are reading books of their choice at their reading level. This means that students learn to read and write by actually reading and writing!
I'm deeply grateful for those of you who care about public education & are willing to fund teachers projects.
