My teaching strategies incorporate a lot of movement and interactions among the students. In the past, the desks kept many students from being completely engaged in our activities -- the desks enabled the students to hide behind them, hide their cell phones, fall asleep easier, complete unfinished assignments from other classes
Moving to a "Deskless Classroom" this year, our classroom is spacious and allows the students to express their individuality more through acting, interactive discussions, movement and collaboratively engaging activities. However, the students (will) occasionally need tables and space to write, complete assessments and work on collaborative tasks. While I do have some counter space there is not enough for my larger classes.
We have some lessons that involve the students moving from station to station to discover answers. The clipboards will allow the students to be more mobile and provide the students with hard, movable surfaces to complete their work (instead of their flimsy notebooks or composition books that become cumbersome to hold and write on at the same time). The clipboards are also for my students to complete worksheets, surveys, exit slips, etc.
I have dry erase boards but am in need of durable student markers. I purchased my current set quite a few years ago with my own funds and many of them are drying out.
Many students arrive to school without a writing utensil. Some of my students are in class because our school is safer than being at home. While we are blessed with their presence, frequently they are more concerned with just making it to school - not whether they have basic supplies. It would be wonderful if I was able to supply good, reliable pencils to any student in need.
