Aside from strengthening my students' language arts skills, research has shown that reading multicultural novels has several benefits. For example, reading multicultural novels promotes tolerance and respect. In addition, reading and discussing multicultural literature serves as a powerful tool in enabling students to gain a better understanding of both their own culture and the cultures of others. Through this deeper knowledge, relationships can be strengthened, bridging the gap between students from diverse backgrounds. Reading is power! By reading multicultural literature, my students will excel academically, creativity, and socially. For instance, my students will create their own deep thinking questions, compose various writing assignments, and increase their knowledge about various cultures. Furthermore, my students will have several opportunities to express their creativity when completing final projects. Performing a play or creating a short movie of the novels are examples of how my students will demonstrate their academic and creative skills.
