Many of us don't realize the part that the most basic tools play in our success. For most of us, having a pencil or an eraser was a given, something we didn't have to worry about. Our parents could and would buy us binders, paper, and writing utensils.
My students don't always have those most basic resources, or have to borrow from others, never getting to have materials they can call their own. By receiving their own curated set of classroom essentials, my students will have one less thing to worry about in their daily lives. This is so vital when the majority of our school population is at-risk or part of a marginalized community.
