Letter sound tubs are seperate tubs for every letter of the alphabet that contain small items that begin with each letter. The items are commonly known, making this a simple exploration of letter sounds. They can be used as a large or small group, or for independent learning. We have experience using these tubs in the past when we borrowed them from someone we no longer have access to, and they were captivating to my students. We need some to call our own! Along with teaching phonemic awareness, the items in these tubs were also powerful motivators for my students to communicate, because they wanted to request to make sure they got a turn to experience each item, and some students tried to name them.
Learning letter sounds can be a daunting process and comes to life with these bins, making an abstract concept concrete. We will use these hands-on materials daily. They make learning fun for students! The storage rack will give us a way to store our tubs in a safe and organized manner. This way we will be sure to find our letters easily and quickly and keep all the small pieces together, maintaining our resource for future use for years to come.
