I have the honor of teaching art at an incredible elementary school in Austin's East Side. I teach over 500 students from Kindergarten-5th grade who come to my classroom to study and create art. Although my students come to school with a variety of challenges (living below the poverty line, single-parent families, bilingual immigrant homes), these kids LOVE ART! We have a population of incredibly gifted young artists and I take my job as their art teacher very seriously. I come to school early to open my classroom up as an "open studio" for students to create before school starts, and I often can be found staying late after school creating an art display or hosting our twice weekly after-school Art Club. I am passionate about creating equitable fine arts opportunities for ALL students, regardless of their ethnicity, gender, native language, or socioeconomic status. These children simply want to create meaningful art!
