Our school is a first year school. Although we just opened our doors this year to a wonderful and beautiful new school, we are very limited on supplies. We do not have a literacy laboratory in our school yet due to district funding, which is usually where our phonics activities would come from. We have the bare minimum in our classroom as well, due to funding. Our school has a diverse population. My class has students from Mexico, Guatemala, and Africa. English is a hard language to learn. Those who are learning it as a second language struggle even more. I also have students with learning disabilities in my classroom. Learning to read has been a struggle for them. Due to the lack of supplies it has been a struggle to get the students what they need to succeed. Building a solid phonetic base will help with success in reading and writing. This is important for all students.
