My upper elementary students have a superpower which is called American Sign Language! Their eyes and hands hold the key to their academic success. They are all deaf and hard of hearing and their identity plays a key role in their lives. My classroom community is made up of my students beautiful culture, heritage, life experiences, and language. In addition, most are considered ELs (English Learners) due to interrupted education, no access to language in their home country, and a different language spoken at home. I have the privilege to work with such brilliant students. My goal is for them to dream beyond our classroom environment through books, technology, and more!
