I am so proud of my students! They chose to read a book about inclusion and it’s one of the longest books on the list of books that they could choose from. They will read both in class and independently at home to increase their reading fluency. Unfortunately, the district only has so many copies to go around, so my students won’t be able to read their chosen book. As an English teacher, I know the value of buy-in and my students really wanted to read The Freedom Writers Diary (TFWD).
With these copies of TFWD, my students will be able to learn not only social-emotional skills and how to be informed civilians, but they will also become even better readers.
My students gained a love for reading over the years and I would like to inspire them and keep that passion strong by giving them the gift of reading what they want to read.
