Have you ever tried to get 11 small children to all sit and focus on one task at the same time? Have you ever tried doing this with students who are also struggling with sensory issues? YES! It can often seem impossible to do. However, offering students different ways of keeping their bodies calm will help them to sit and attend and will also empower them to make good choices which can result in children who are more motivated to learn.
In my classroom it is important that we help students to be able to access instruction in a way that best fits their individual needs. Part of this is having a variety of seating options for them to choose from. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating. Movement seats such as wobble stools and balance ball chairs will directly benefit my students who just cannot seem to hold still and really need movement throughout their day.
