How many rings does Saturn really have? Where is Yellowstone Park? These and many others are questions my third-grade students have and wish to explore.
With your generous donation, my students will get an opportunity to read about the planets in small groups and learn United States geography and mapping skills. Students will be able to create Google slideshows on the planets as chief scientist and create their own fictional new planet based on what they have learned about the current planets.
In geography, students will get an opportunity to learn about our amazing 50 states and then create their own U.S. board games in small groups. With a subscription to Storyworks Jr., the students will also get a chance to read new fiction stories and plays each month.
As a returning teacher to third grade after an extended break, I began the school year with very few books in my library for the students to browse and read. Our student population is one where books at home are in short supply. The greater the opportunity each child has to read, the greater their chances of success in the coming years.
